Roku or Firestick ?

been a bit of a development in my search to find a replacement for Virgin cable

A little while ago I bought a TV at Lidl because it was cheap and I thought it was the same model as the one I already have so useful to have as a spare ........ still in it's box in the spare room

One of the things I've come across in looking around for devices for freeview, recording, streaming is Smart TVs ...... and looking at my spare TV it is actually a Smart TV with built in Freeview and Apps..... the remote has buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Freeview Play and can connect to the internet via wifi or ethernet, so theoretically it gets all the catch up services as well

So it's not the same as the model I have now ..... it's a better one !

I'll see if I can get it set up tomorrow

If everything works and I can get it set up I might not need to think about any of these streaming devices and could just buy a simple recorder and then I'd have everything I need

I managed to get the TV set up and connected to the internet ....... blimey it's fantastic. Lots of extra channels from normal freeview, all the 'free' catch up apps like iPlayer, All4 etc (except ITVX) . I've seen threads about this ..... when ITV recently changed over from ITV Hub to ITVX it disappeared from some TV and streaming services

I've got YouTube up and managed to sign in ..... it's not as good as on the laptop because you can't get an adblocker but it'll be great for watching Lancs cricket in the summer cos there's no adverts anyway

It's got Netflix already installed but obviously you have to subscribe .... I guess I could consider that in due course

you can do all the fancy stuff like pause live tv, go back to the beginning of a programme if you catch it part way through.

It'll take me some time to go through and find everything that's on there but it appears to have negated my need for a streaming device

I feel such a fool for not realising I had a smart TV still in it's box in the spare room !

Nice one @swingaleg. Probably got everything you need right there. At least you didn't buy a device before you set your new TV up. :)
I'd love to stay and chat...........but.
