On occasion, like just now, she'll suddenly say something without being prompted. Sometimes this is because someone on TV has said "Alexa" etc, but not in this case.
At around the time that Allegra Stratton was filmed joking about the lockdown parties in Downing Street, our Alexa was in overdrive whenever the news came on. I remember shouting at it, "He said Allegra, not Alexa you stupid *insert expletive* machine.

I'd love to stay and chat...........but.

Seeing the state opening of Parliament I was just reminded of Tommy And His Trifle (from Viz, awesome fount of much knowledge).

The premise of the strip being that people would be inspired to allow him into places for free, go on the bus without having to buy a ticket etc, all because he had this magnificent trifle with him...

I see now this was the original inspiration for official protocols, whereby authority is conveyed by possession of a metaphorical trifle, here in the form of a fancy hat with sparkly bling.
A poor substitute but a trifle none the less :)

I found myself addressing a slug that had climbed out of my kitchen bin. "Ah, my fine friend!" I cried, "Now I know how you are getting in. Well, you are going right out again." I approached the "slug", ready to pounce, only to find it was a piece of banana peel.

On this page on History.com there's the following image, which I assume is genuine.

It made me chuckle!

(Spoilered as slightly rude!)

I'm jinxed with my Saturday morning trips to the supermarket.
This morning the old lady 2 people ahead of me in the queue paid for her goods then got into a panic because she didn't know what she'd done with her card.
So the lady in front of me and the cashier helped her go through her shopping bags in case she'd accidentally put it in there while she emptied her handbag to look for it.
I had a look around the floor.
We were all invested in her finding her card for a good 5 minutes.
She eventually found it loose in her handbag.
Turns out it wasn't even her bank card. It was just a loyalty card for the supermarket.
😬
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make
