Weight loss

Post by Astra LeMort »

In my younger days, I never had to worry about my weight, I could eat whatever I liked and not gain an ounce. That's changed as I've got older, especially since the menopause. I was also on medication which had the unfortunate side effect of weight gain. Even though I no longer take the meds, the weight didn't disappear :(

I've never really believed in going on a diet. I've got friends who seem to spend half their lives on a diet, and they do lose weight, but as soon as the diet is finished, they put it all back on again, often ending up heavier than they were before.

Like many people, I've gained some lockdown lard, so I'm trying to lose some. I've become very aware of portion sizes, and cut down on carbs. And trying not to snack. I know I need more exercise, but chronic pain makes that difficult.

So what are your top tips? Have you lost weight and managed to keep it off?

I can't help I'm afraid :(

I've always stayed pretty much the same weight regardless of what I eat. The only difference now is that I have thin legs and a bit of a belly! :gary:

I've lost about 5 or 6lbs during my recent dental problems, but I wouldn't recommend that !

In general I have put on weight during the pandemic, slowly at first then quite markedly over Christmas. New year and Winter .....and I know that now my mouth is getting better I'll soon put weight on again

It is the exercise I'm struggling with as I've got used to not going out over the last 18 months ......... and I've settled into a bit of a comfy rut.

Well, I finally decided I needed to seriously tackle my weight. I bought some scales (I haven't owned any in years) - that was a nasty shock :o I knew I'd put on a lot of weight but it was so much worse than I was expecting.

So I downloaded the free NHS weight loss app. It's not bad. There are some irritations with it, but it really helps to track calories and monitor whether you're succeeding.

I've just finished the 12 week programme and I've lost a stone, so I'm pretty happy with that. I've reset the app and I'm going to do another 12 weeks and hopefully lose another stone.

Even if/when I get to a weight I'm happy with, I might still use the food diary just to make sure it doesn't creep up again.

Well done Astra !

I like to set easily achieved targets of losing 1 pound per month ....... in 2022 I lost 7lbs which is nearly half a pound a month but if I could that again in 2023 I'd be down to a reasonable weight

My problem is that I record my weight on the 1st of every month then pile into the biscuits and sweets for a few days thinking I've got the rest of the month to lose the weight again ....... probably not the most efficient way to gradually slim down
